Kelly’s Maui Adventure
When it comes to planning the perfect Hawaii getaway, firsthand experience is invaluable. That’s why we’re thrilled to share our very own travel advisor, Kelly Witte’s, recent trip to Maui! From resort-hopping and family-friendly beach days to incredible dining and excursions, Kelly’s insights will help you decide which Maui experience is right for you.
Resort Comparison:
Kelly and her family spent a week exploring three distinct resorts in Maui:
Napili Kai Beach Resort – A charming timeshare-style property with an unbeatable beachfront location. Its calm waters were perfect for her 4-year-old son, Brooks, and having a full kitchen was a game-changer for convenience. While not a luxury resort, Napili Kai is ideal for multigenerational families or travelers looking for a peaceful retreat away from the crowds of Kaanapali.
Westin Maui Resort & Spa – Kelly’s personal favorite! This resort offers a fantastic mix of upscale accommodations, family-friendly activities, and prime access to Whaler’s Village. She especially loved the Hokupa’a Tower, which granted access to “The Lanai”—a private lounge with all-day dining, a bar, and an adults-only infinity pool. With multiple pools, a luau, and fun entertainment options like The Valley Alley (featuring Top Golf, bowling, and an arcade), this resort truly has something for everyone.
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa – A tropical paradise with stunning pools and an incredible kid-friendly water play area. While Kelly noted that the beach access was under renovation and a bit rocky, the pools more than made up for it—especially for little ones who want to splash in a fresh-water sandy-bottom lagoon. She also appreciated the convenience of the Drums of the Pacific Luau being on-site, perfect for guests who want an authentic Hawaiian experience without leaving the resort.
Dining Highlights:
One of the best parts of any vacation? The food! Kelly and her family enjoyed a mix of resort dining and local eats.
Seahouse at Napili Kai stood out for its generous “kids eat free” policy and beachfront views.
The Lanai at the Westin provided a stress-free dining experience with breathtaking views of breaching whales while enjoying meals throughout the day.
Japengo at the Hyatt became a favorite for its Asian fusion flavors and sunset views, while Swan Court’s breakfast buffet was a hit with its variety and quality.
Bonus Tip: Kelly recommends taking the free Kaanapali trolley to the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa to watch the famous cliff divers at sunset—an unforgettable experience!
Must-Do Experiences:
Whenever any of our travel advisors are in destination, they always seek out experiences or excursions that they can confidently recommend to clients. Here are two that stood out to Kelly:
Maui Pineapple Tour – A more immersive and engaging experience than Oahu’s Dole Plantation, this tour allowed her family to walk through the pineapple crops and take home a fresh pineapple.
Maui Ocean Center – A small but impressive aquarium showcasing native Hawaiian sea life. Kelly loved its educational value, especially for families.
Which Resort Is Right For You?
Napili Kai – Best for families or groups looking for a quiet, condo-style stay with great beach access.
Westin Maui – Perfect for both families and couples, thanks to its balance of luxury, activities, and convenience to Whaler’s Village.
Hyatt Regency Maui – Ideal for travelers who love resort pools and family-friendly amenities but aren’t as focused on the beach experience.
A Final Note From Kelly:
Hawaii will always be my favorite vacation destination, and Maui truly has a resort and experience for every type of traveler. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beachfront escape, an adventure-filled trip, or a luxurious resort stay, I can help find the perfect fit for you!
